It examines the conceptual and formal characteristics of individual works by the artist and positions them within the historical artistic moment. During the 1960s, artistic practice evolved to include media outside of painting and sculpture. This new artistic landscape expanded to include film, video, sound, and other forms of multi-sensory artistic practices. Aldo Tambellini is a forerunner of this novel artistic movement. In addition to Tambellini's artwork, the thesis also examines the work of other multi-media artists such as Stan VanDerBeek, Richard Hamilton, Arte Programmata, and Paul Sharits in order to illuminate different approaches to media practice within an international sphere.
