It explores these themes under the Biblical myth of dying. It presupposes, through various poetic forms, that the Black saint or sinner must endure the pressures of getting into \u2018heaven,\u2019 or escaping the fires of \u2018hell.\u2019 Furthermore, they must die to the burdens of society to be \u2018born again\u2019 in order for a wholesome existence. These poems also carry personal and literary perspectives, sharing my migratory experiences form Ghana to the United States and interacting with works of poets like Lucille Clifton and Jericho Brown who similarly explore such themes. Ultimately, the poems raise questions of belonging and suggest that the Black identity in the American society continues to be complex and one must be ready to experience a difficult transition on the journey to self."},{"label":"dcterms.available","value":"Never Deliver"},{"label":"dcterms.contributor","value":"Advisors: Sheehan, Julie; Eady, Cornelius; Doty, Mark"},{"label":"dcterms.creator","value":"Ansong, Rachel Amanda"},{"label":"dcterms.dateAccepted","value":"2018-07-03T16:28:24Z"},{"label":"dcterms.dateSubmitted","value":"2018-07-03T16:28:24Z"},{"label":"dcterms.description","value":"Thesis"},{"label":"dcterms.extent","value":"83 pages"},{"label":"dcterms.identifier","value":"http://hdl.handle.net/11401/78295"},{"label":"dcterms.issued","value":"2017-12-01"},{"label":"dcterms.language","value":"en"},{"label":"dcterms.provenance","value":"Submitted by Jason Torre (fjason.torre@stonybrook.edu) on 2018-07-03T16:28:24Z\nNo. of bitstreams: 1\nAnsong_grad.sunysb_0771M_13525.pdf: 323883 bytes, checksum: 63b71cd76775bb284ca0f0abcc3d7374 (MD5)"},{"label":"dcterms.publisher","value":"Stony Brook University"},{"label":"dcterms.subject","value":"Creative writing, African, Identity, Migration, Poetry"},{"label":"dcterms.title","value":"Resurrection"},{"label":"dcterms.type","value":"Text"}],"description":"This manifest was generated dynamically","viewingDirection":"left-to-right","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://repo.library.stonybrook.edu/cantaloupe/iiif/2/canvas/page-1.json","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"Page 1","height":1650,"width":1275,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://repo.library.stonybrook.edu/cantaloupe/iiif/2/14%2F39%2F02%2F143902830425660193653935654383527483562/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","height":1650,"width":1275,"service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://repo.library.stonybrook.edu/cantaloupe/iiif/2/14%2F39%2F02%2F143902830425660193653935654383527483562","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json"}},"on":"https://repo.library.stonybrook.edu/cantaloupe/iiif/2/canvas/page-1.json"}]}]}]}
