In this thesis, I employ two interdisciplinary methods, critical discourse analysis and qualitative interviewing and ground my project in feminist disability studies and the concept of reproductive justice. I analyze interviews I conducted with five currently pregnant women from Long Island, New York and three pregnancy manuals, What to Expect When You\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re Expecting, Ina May\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Guide to Childbirth, and The Disabled Woman\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Guide to Pregnancy and Birth). Through my study of these texts, I found that dominant pregnancy discourses are marked by ableist expectations of and from pregnant women and not all women have the privilege (particularly able-bodied privilege) to expect something from their pregnancies. I end this thesis with a consideration of the CenteringPregnancy model of prenatal care, as a potential way towards a pregnancy discourse defined by disability-inclusive reproductive justice."},{"label":"dcterms.available","value":"2017-09-20T16:52:11Z"},{"label":"dcterms.contributor","value":"Montegary, Liz."},{"label":"dcterms.creator","value":"Abbasi-Lemmon, Laura"},{"label":"dcterms.dateAccepted","value":"2017-09-20T16:52:11Z"},{"label":"dcterms.dateSubmitted","value":"2017-09-20T16:52:11Z"},{"label":"dcterms.description","value":"Department of Comparative Literary and Cultural Studies"},{"label":"dcterms.extent","value":"121 pg."},{"label":"dcterms.format","value":"Monograph"},{"label":"dcterms.identifier","value":"http://hdl.handle.net/11401/77201"},{"label":"dcterms.issued","value":"2016-12-01"},{"label":"dcterms.language","value":"en_US"},{"label":"dcterms.provenance","value":"Made available in DSpace on 2017-09-20T16:52:11Z (GMT).
